Before the establishment of University of Costa Rica, pharmacy was carried out by some doctors, who had training from abroad. Imports of boticas and boticarios products and excipients, pharmaceuticals and perishable goods accelerated the state to systemize the study of Pharmacy. Thus the Scholl of Pharmacy in Costa Rica was created in 1897 as a branch of Medicine, Surgery and Pharmacy. The attachment of The School of Pharmacy to College of Pharmacists is because of the separatist movement of the people who created the Faculty of Medicine, Surgery and Pharmacy.
In 1940, the University of Costa Rica was founded and the College of Pharmacy became a faculty from 31st December in 1940. After becoming an administered faculty they offered laboratories, classrooms and other facilities to other economic units.
The Faculty of Pharmacy has managed well the study of pharmacy for 110 years. The career of Bachelor of Pharmacy is good in Costa Rica. Till forty years the curriculum was not much changed. In 1964 and in 1976 the curriculum was changed. In 1976, a new curriculum was introduced to meet the new socio economic needs and the health needs of the country. In 1987, the plan was approved and then several changes to upgrade the curriculum were introduced. The most significant changes occurring till 2006 in are in the years 1993, 1995, 1996 and 2006. The curriculum featured 181 claims of which 21 are of humanist training courses and the rest dealt with matters of administrative, social, bio medical and basic science. Pharmaceutical practices were done through structure laboratories and through skills and practices. In the race of pharmacy three axes has been included like Health Care, Human Development and Research and Pharmaceutical Care.
The Pharmacy University was created on 23 rd July in 1973 as a response for supplying free drugs to scholarship students and some services to other students.

In 1999 the contest on Drug Dependence gave birth to the Comprehensive Program for Prevention and in turn stimulate the creating of the Master of Drug Dependence, beginning in 1999
In 1997, The Master of Pharmacy Industrial was initiated
Since 1997, the Department of Industrial Pharmacy was operating
In 1994 The Department of Drug Dependence, Toxicology and Pharmacology were created.
In 1993 The Pharmaceutical Research Institute started its duties.
By training new professionals continuously and making the bases of academics strong in The College of Pharmacists in Costa Rica supported and promoted social services.
