Another remarkable name in the history of pharmacy is the name of Abul al Qausim as Zahhrawi who was a world famous physician, surgeon and scientist of that time. He is often considered as the father of modern surgery. He was also the first one to make medicine using the process of distillation and sublimation as well. In his famous book he gave some recipes to the readers to prepare the simple potions, compounding which the physicians and chemists can produce the complex drugs which were in use at that time. Among other Muslim pharmacists Sabur Ibn Sahl, Al Biruni, Ibn Sina, Al-Madrini, Ibn al Wafid were notable too. The works penned by these physicians were translated in different western languages.
Apart from the Muslim pharmacies the Indians as well as the ancient Greeks also have their contributions to the history of Pharmacy. Before the birth pf Christ Indians have developed the science of ayurveda- a perfect combination of botany and chemistry which is till date known for its healing properties. The ancient science of ayurveda included mostly the natural ingredient to heal people. The ancient Indian physicians like Charaka and Shusruta have descried the medicinal values of different trees and chemicals in their books. The Greeks to on the other hand knew the healing properties of chemicals like alcohol and oils.
According to the history of pharmacy the drugstores of North America as well as of he western world were called apothecary. As the need for pharmacy were realized by the people of the western world they started the community pharmacy. The community pharmacy refers to the retail stores that sold medicine and came with a dispensary where the medicines and drugs are stored and dispensed. In the retail stores Proper care were taken of the storage conditions, text or equipments. The community pharmacy also began to have trained pharmacists. Some pharmacists also used to own their drug stores too.
According to the history of pharmacy the hospital pharmacies are also different kind of pharmacies which deal with complicated compound and medicines and less complicated customer relationships. The clinical pharmacies are also an integral part of the history of pharmacy. This pharmacies used to provide direct patient care and services.
The history of pharmacy also includes the compounding pharmacy which is engaged in the practice of invention of different new forms of drug to make it more consumable like a lollipop containing drugs. The consultant pharmacy on the other hand deals with providing the patients useful advice about the drugs that will be beneficial to them as well as about their usage. The nuclear pharmacy and the military pharmacy are also some different types of pharmacies that are wroth mentioning in the history of pharmacy as well.
